Isaiah writes
that grain is both “seed for the sower
and bread for the eater” (Isa 55:10). That is a wonderful description of
the word of God. Those of us in ministry, whether teaching children in Sunday
school, preaching to hundreds from the pulpit, or in one to one conversation,
are dealing with truth that has first been food
for us, the eater, and then seed for us,
the sower, to plant into other peoples’ hearts. What we have not first digested ourselves,
will never be real enough to pass on to others.
